Jessica K. Willett, MD
Jessica K. Willett, MD was born and raised in rural New Hampshire, learning the values of hard work and commitment at a young age. Coming from a family of coaches and teachers, education was always at the forefront and she excelled in both athletics and academics for most of her young life.
While completing her undergraduate degree in Physical Education at Ithaca College in upstate New York, she fell in love with Anatomy & Physiology and the intricacies of the human body beyond the sports sciences. She connected this passion to obtaining her EMT licensure, which would be the beginning of a long relationship with prehospital medicine.
Dr. Willett completed her teaching degree with a student teaching position on the island of Cyprus, where she remained for a short tenure after college graduation, teaching physical education and health. She used this as an opportunity to integrate into a new culture, while exploring most of Europe and Southeast Africa prior to her return to the States and applying to medical school.
A non-traditional applicant, Dr. Willett chose to continue down this path and chose to attend St. George's University for her medical training. She was accepted into the Keith B. Taylor Global Scholars program and completed her MS1 year in Newcastle, England. This led to further international exposure as she completed electives in India and Kenya to study tropical medicine and developing-world health. Her MS2 year was spent on the island of Grenada in the West Indies, after which she completed her clinical training years in New York City.
She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at a county hospital in Northern California. Her love for prehospital and emergency medicine prompted her to complete a fellowship in Emergency Medicine. She remains active as an emergency physician at the County hospital and stays involved in prehospital care by acting as the base hospital's EMS liaison.
She also stays active in the international medical community, acting as medical clinic coordinator for The Flying Samaritans who provide free healthcare on a monthly basis to the community of San Quintin in Baja California, Mexico. She believes that her duty as a physician is to provide care to all, especially those who are unable to receive it. Through pursuing her own passions, she hopes to inspire others to do the same and thus, have a greater impact on the world.
